The Chicago Pneumatic QRS15 is a 15 HP rotary screw air compressor designed for automotive shops and light industrial applications that need compressed air throughout the working day. Its 100% duty cycle allows it to run continuously as demand requires, unlike a piston compressor that must cycle and cool between extended periods of operation. Built in Italy by Atlas Copco, the package combines a rotary screw airend with a 132-gallon horizontal receiver and operates at a reported 69 dBA, making it a practical option for installation inside or near an active workspace. Note: this compressor requires three-phase electrical service, with a TEFC motor specified for 208–230/460V configurations.

The main advantage of the QRS15 is the way it delivers air. Rotary screw compression provides a continuous supply rather than the pulsing output of a reciprocating pump, helping the compressor keep pace with multiple tools during sustained demand. Its load/no-load control with timed shutdown responds automatically when air demand drops, unloading the compressor and eventually shutting it down if demand does not return. The machine also uses a vibration-isolated assembly to reduce movement and transmitted vibration. Serviceable spin-on oil and separator filters simplify routine maintenance compared with sealed components. Output figures published for this model vary by pressure setting, so buyers should confirm the required CFM and pressure configuration before ordering.

The QRS15 is a strong fit for automotive repair shops running several air tools, commercial service facilities, and light industrial operations that have outgrown a piston compressor. It is especially suited to shops where noise and continuous air demand make a rotary screw design worthwhile. The 132-gallon tank adds stored air capacity, while the relatively low operating noise allows more flexibility in where the compressor can be installed. An air dryer and electronic drain valve are not included, so applications requiring dry air should plan for appropriate downstream air treatment.

Specifications

Overall width and height appear in our data without units, so we have not printed them — a bare number is not a measurement. Ask us if the footprint decides your installation.

Approvals

The control panel is approved by UL, cUL and CSA and housed in a NEMA 1 enclosure. Those approvals apply to the electrical control panel and its components.

They do not constitute a certification of the complete compressor package, nor do they replace any pressure-vessel inspection or site-specific requirements. Installation must comply with applicable local electrical codes and should be completed by a qualified electrician.

If your facility, insurer or local authority requires specific documentation or approvals, contact us before ordering. We will confirm the manufacturer's documentation for this model in writing.

Shipping and Delivery

This compressor ships by freight within the lower 48 states, with shipping quoted live at checkout based on your delivery address.

At 622 lbs with a 132-gallon tank, plan the delivery in advance. You will need appropriate unloading equipment, such as a forklift or loading dock, or you may choose terminal pickup. Residential deliveries may include an additional residential fee.

Inspect the shipment before signing. Check the tank, control panel, fittings and packaging while the driver is present. Record any visible damage or shortages on the bill of lading before signing and take photographs when necessary.

Warranty

This compressor includes a 1-Year standard warranty. A 5-Year warranty is available when the unit is commissioned through a factory-authorized start-up.

The manufacturer describes a typical commissioning cost of approximately $350, but this is not a fixed price. The fee is charged by the commissioning provider, so confirm the current cost before scheduling service.

Professional commissioning is recommended regardless of warranty coverage. A proper start-up verifies important operating conditions, including rotation direction, oil level and control settings.

If a problem occurs, stop and isolate the machine before contacting us. Do not disassemble the airend or other major components before a warranty claim has been evaluated. Take photographs of the condition as found and contact us before repairs begin.

Warranty claims can be submitted through our claims process at Mechanic Superstore's Warranty Claims page.
