The EMAX Silent Air ESP10V120V1 is a 10 HP, 120-gallon vertical air compressor built for shops that need reliable compressed air through long work cycles. Its two-stage V4 cast-iron pump delivers 38 CFM at 175 PSI maximum working pressure from a 230V single-phase motor, making it suitable for demanding automotive and industrial applications. What sets it apart is the combination of a patented Silent Air silencer system and a pressure-lubricated pump, designed to reduce operating noise while supporting an estimated 70,000-hour pump service life.
The Silent Air intake suppression system targets the primary source of compressor noise by using baffle plates and high-capacity filter media to reduce sound while keeping the pump accessible for maintenance. The true pressure lubrication system continuously feeds oil to critical bearing points, crankshaft, and connecting rod assemblies, helping control heat and wear during heavy use. A cast-iron pump construction, automotive-style oil filter, liquid-filled oil pressure gauge, and rebuildable components provide the durability needed for continuous-duty operation.
Designed for professional garages, repair shops, and industrial environments, this compressor is built for users who need high output without excessive noise. Features like the cast-iron flywheel with dual B-style belts, continuous-run head unloaders, dual-bolt belt tensioner, and automatic tank drain help improve cooling, simplify maintenance, and support dependable performance during daily shop operation.
Features
Silent Air Patented Noise Suppression
The Silent Air silencer targets the compressor’s primary noise source: intake sound. Using noise-reducing baffle plates and high-capacity filter media, the system is designed to operate at or below conversational volume, with a target of up to 50% less perceived noise to the human ear. Since every 10 dBA reduction represents approximately half the perceived loudness, this design helps create a quieter work environment while keeping the pump fully accessible for maintenance, unlike enclosed cabinet systems.
Pressure-Lubricated Pump
A rear-mounted, gear-driven oil pump provides continuous pressurized lubrication to every bearing point, helping keep components cool and extending pump life. The crankshaft and connecting rods feature rifle-drilled oil passages that deliver oil directly to high-friction areas. An automotive-style spin-on oil filter removes contaminants, while a liquid-filled analog gauge allows operators to monitor oil pressure during operation.
Unlike splash-lubricated systems, pressure lubrication delivers oil precisely where it is needed, making it better suited for demanding, high-duty-cycle applications.
100% Cast Iron Construction
Major pump components are built from cast iron for increased strength, durability, and rigidity under demanding compression loads. The crankcase, cylinder heads, cylinders, connecting rods, crankshaft, and high-pressure piston are all constructed from cast iron, with no aluminum sleeves hidden beneath the finish.
The low-pressure pistons are aluminum by design because they operate under lower stress levels of approximately 45 PSI.
Cast Iron Flywheel
The Eaton-built pump uses a heavy-duty cast-iron flywheel designed to store rotational energy, helping reduce amp draw and improve energy efficiency. The 10 HP model uses a 20-inch flywheel with two B-style groove belts, providing increased belt contact area and extended belt life.
Large integrated cooling fins help draw heat away from the pump during operation.
Piston and Connecting Rod Design
The high-pressure pistons are made from cast iron to withstand heavy loads and resist cylinder wear. Connecting rods are CNC-machined from solid cast iron for maximum rigidity and feature replaceable bearing inserts and wrist pins, allowing the assembly to be rebuilt instead of replaced.
Each piston uses a four-ring design with two oil-control rings and two compression rings. This design improves sealing, reduces oil carryover, minimizes blow-by, and extends ring life. A rifle-drilled oil passage delivers continuous lubrication through the crankshaft, connecting rod, piston pin, and bearing surfaces.
Oil Pump
The automotive-style gear oil pump provides pressurized lubrication to crankshaft bearings and the upper connecting rod assembly. Features include a bleeder valve for quick priming, an adjustable pressure regulator for consistent oil flow across different RPM ranges, a liquid-filled pressure gauge for easy monitoring, and a spin-on filter to remove contaminants and extend service life.
Disc Valves
The compressor uses CNC-machined concentric-ring disc valves that are precision surface-ground for improved sealing and durability. Compared with feather or reed-style valves, disc valves provide longer service life and easier maintenance.
Valve servicing is simplified: remove the retainer, inspect or replace the valve, and reinstall it quickly. The valves are also designed to work with the automatic head-unloader system.
Cast Iron Cylinder Heads
The cylinder heads are constructed from solid cast iron for improved durability and resistance to heat and pressure. Tapped mounting holes provide stronger threads, while the disc-valve design helps maintain a secure head-gasket seal without requiring frequent retorquing.
Cast Iron Cylinders
The CNC-machined cast-iron cylinders feature deep cooling fins to improve heat dissipation during extended operation. Precision-machined bores maintain concentricity to reduce oil carryover, while deep-bored threaded holes ensure proper head torque.
Each cylinder is precision-honed to support easier break-in, improved sealing, and longer ring life.
Continuous-Run Head Unloaders
Continuous-run head unloaders are recommended for electric models operating at 40% duty cycle or higher. The system relieves pressure at the intake valve by holding it open, allowing the pistons to continue cycling without compressing air.
This helps circulate cooler air through the cylinders, reduce heat and wear, and protect the motor and magnetic starter by minimizing loaded starts.
Dual-Bolt Belt Tensioner
The dual-bolt belt tensioner provides accurate, repeatable belt adjustment while maintaining proper alignment and tension. This reduces belt wear and extends service life without requiring pry bars or improvised adjustment methods.
Pump Riser
The pump-mounting riser elevates the compressor pump to allow 360-degree airflow from the flywheel around the oil reservoir and underneath the pump. This improves cooling performance and helps maintain operating temperatures.
Automatic Tank Drain
The dual-timer electric auto drain automatically removes moisture and condensate from the receiver tank. Drain intervals can be adjusted from 1 to 45 minutes, with customizable open duration settings. An integrated air muffler helps reduce noise during draining.

Warranty
The ESP10V120V1 includes a 1-year standard warranty covering defects in materials, workmanship, and parts from the date of delivery. The warranty also includes one year of labor coverage performed by an authorized technician. For the first six months, EMAX covers ground freight costs for warranty replacement parts.
Warranty coverage can be extended to 5 years by registering the compressor and following EMAX’s extended warranty requirements. The extended plan requires the use of EMAX SMART OIL and adherence to the recommended maintenance schedule, including replacing the factory break-in oil within the first 70 hours of operation and completing all future oil changes at the specified intervals.
The recommended service kit for 5–10 HP Silent Air electric models is EFKIT008AWBS (sold separately).
FAQ
How much air does it deliver, and at what pressure?
The pump delivers 38 CFM and provides 34 CFM at its maximum working pressure of 175 PSI.
What electrical service does it need?
The compressor operates on 230V single-phase power and draws 52.9 full-load amps with a 1.15 service factor. EMAX recommends a 60-amp breaker for installation. A magnetic starter is included.
Can it run continuously?
Yes. The unit is designed for continuous-run operation and supports automatic head unloaders, which are recommended for applications with duty cycles of 40% or higher. The compressor has a rated 60% duty cycle.
