The QT MAX 5 HP air compressor is built for shops that need to pair reliable compressed air with a refrigerated dryer. Its factory-installed air-cooled aftercooler removes much of the moisture before the air reaches your dryer, reducing the amount of bulk condensate the dryer has to handle. The result is a better-prepared air supply for downstream drying equipment. The compressor combines a splash-lubricated cast iron two-stage pump, an 80-gallon vertical ASME receiver, and a factory magnetic starter. Requires 460V 3-Phase power.
The aftercooler is the key advantage for moisture-sensitive compressed-air systems. Hot, moisture-laden air leaving the pump is cooled before entering the receiver, allowing much of that moisture to condense at the tank rather than farther down the air lines. It does not replace a refrigerated dryer, but it reduces the bulk moisture load reaching it so the dryer can focus on removing the remaining water vapor. A separate finned intercooler between the pump's two compression stages also helps control operating temperature by cooling the air before the second stage. Combined with the pump's slow rotation, cast iron construction, and low-oil shutdown, these features support the manufacturer's stated 50,000+ hour pump life.
This configuration is well suited to professional shops already running a refrigerated dryer or planning to install one, particularly where moisture control directly affects the finished work. Paint and finishing operations, plasma cutting, blast cabinets, automotive service facilities, and plants with 460V three-phase distribution can all benefit from having moisture reduced before air reaches the rest of the system.
Two Model Codes to Confirm
Our records list this unit under two codes: 453DS80HCB20 in the product title and specifications, and 253DS80HCB20 in the manufacturer copy.
If you are matching an existing machine or ordering parts, ask us to confirm the correct model code in writing before ordering.
Why Choose the Horizontal Tank?
The horizontal 80-gallon receiver keeps the pump, belt guard, oil sight glass and drain closer to working height, making routine maintenance easier. It also suits installations where ceiling height is limited.
-
Footprint: Approximately 70" × 23"
-
Weight: 660 lbs
-
Outlet: 3/4"
-
Tank: 80-gallon horizontal, coded receiver
The tradeoff is floor space. If floor area is the main limitation, consider the vertical version instead. Install the compressor on a flat, solid, level surface; leveling and site preparation are the customer's responsibility.
Two-Stage Cast-Iron Pump
The QT-5 splash-lubricated, belt-driven pump uses a cast-iron design with an aluminum head and high-efficiency finned intercooler. Air is compressed in two stages, with cooling between them to improve efficiency and control operating temperature.
-
Output: 17.2 CFM at 175 PSI
- Two-piece connecting rods
- Oversized oil reservoir
- Oil sight glass
- Slow-speed operation
Motor & Protection
An ODP slow-speed motor drives the pump, helping reduce heat, wear and operating noise.
Factory protection includes:
- Magnetic starter with thermal overload
- Low-oil shutdown
- Automatic condensate drain
- Enclosed belt guard
The specified electrical supply is 5 HP, 208V, 3-phase. Breaker and conductor sizing depend on the installation, so have a qualified electrician size the circuit to local code.
Perfect For
- Low-ceiling workshops and service bays
- Commercial and industrial 208V three-phase facilities
- Shops running multiple air tools
- Owners who perform their own routine maintenance

Certification, Stated Plainly
The receiver is a coded pressure vessel, and our data lists UL and CSA recognition for the electrical components.
These are not the same as a third-party safety listing for the complete assembled machine. If your insurer or local inspector requires a specific listing, ask us before ordering so we can confirm the requirement with the manufacturer.
Shipping & Receiving
The compressor ships by palletized freight throughout the lower 48 states, with shipping calculated at checkout based on your address.
Plan for unloading in advance. A loading dock, forklift or pallet jack is recommended. If you do not have suitable equipment, terminal pickup is an option. Residential delivery carries an additional fee.
Inspect the shipment before signing. Check the pallet and crate, photograph any damage, and record it on the bill of lading in front of the driver. Damage discovered after a clean signature can be difficult to claim.
Warranty
The unit includes a 1-year factory warranty and may qualify for Quincy's 3-Year "No Bull" Warranty under the manufacturer's terms. The extended coverage is conditional, so review the warranty terms and confirm what applies to this model before relying on the longer period.
